Pristina –\u00a0<\/span>Kosovo Women\u2019s Network (KWN) on May 16 through a\u00a0<\/span>Press Release<\/span><\/a>\u00a0expressed its deep concern due to a\u00a0<\/span>publication of a photograph\u00a0<\/span>showing\u00a0<\/span>a group of soldiers\u00a0<\/span>raping\u00a0<\/span>a woman in front of her family,<\/span>\u00a0which was\u00a0<\/span>made public by\u00a0<\/span>Member of Parliament Florina\u00a0Brovina.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

KWN considers that\u00a0Brovina\u00a0by this action has violated the principle of dignity of the survivors<\/span>\u00a0of the\u00a0<\/span>w<\/span>artime sexual\u00a0violence\u00a0<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0recalling that the body of the survivor of Kosovo\u00a0<\/span>Wartime sexual violence\u00a0<\/span>is also exposed by this photography. Besides,\u00a0Mrs.Brovina\u00a0has violated the\u00a0<\/span>Article 23 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo<\/span><\/a>, which stipulates that human dignity is inviolable and is the basis of all human rights and fundamental freedoms.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Th<\/span>e<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>picture\u00a0<\/span>showing<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the woman\u00a0<\/span>being<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>raped in front of her family,\u00a0<\/span>besides<\/span>\u00a0being\u00a0<\/span>emotionally difficult and\u00a0<\/span>disturbing, can also affect the deterioration of this survivor\u2019s emotional and psychological state. Furthermore, it may discourage<\/span>\u00a0other\u00a0<\/span>w<\/span>artime sexual violence<\/span>\u00a0survivors\u00a0from\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>reporting<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and also serve as a dangerous precedent for<\/span>\u00a0all women and girls reporting sexual violence<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>what\u00a0<\/span>they can expect from the process<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Through this Press Release\u00a0<\/span>KWN seeks from Kosovo\u2019s Parliament Members that in order to fulfil obligations within their mandate to demand accountability from the Courts, both national and international, for the lack of institutional response and dignified treatment of\u00a0<\/span>w<\/span>artime sexual violence\u00a0<\/span>cases committed during the<\/span>\u00a0recent<\/span>\u00a0war in Kosovo.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
