A large number of people,\u00a0representatives\u00a0of civil society and public figures gathered on May 20 in the capital\u2019s square \u201cZahir\u00a0Pajaziti\u201d to\u00a0continue\u00a0marching in front\u00a0og\u00a0the Kosovo\u00a0Assembly\u00a0Building, in support and solidarity with wartime sexual violence survivors in Kosovo.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The organizers of this march were The Kosova Rehabilitation Centre for Torture Victims (KRCT), Kosovo Women\u2019s Network (KWN), Medica Kosova, Medica Gjakova, and Centre\u00a0for Promotion of Women\u2019s Rights-Drenas, and the organization Justice for All.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This protesting\u00a0march arose in response\u00a0to the publication of a photograph by Member of Parliament, Flora\u00a0Brovina,\u00a0and an\u00a0act which KWN strongly condemned as a violation of the dignity of wartime\u00a0sexual\u00a0violence survivors in Kosovo.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Executive Director of KRCT, Feride Rushiti said that such images belong in court, however\u00a0parliament is not a place for them.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have gathered here to express anger, deep indignation and to seek responsibility for the images scandal which unfolded in the Kosovo\u2019s\u00a0Assembly, and also to convey the message of women and men who experienced wartime sexual violence. The survivors need dignity and justice\u201d, she said.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Director of Medica Gjakova, Mirlinda Sada also demanded for a dignified\u00a0treatment for the survivors of wartime sexual violence.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cThis occurrence\u00a0was a lapse of our work and engagement since post-war to improving the mental and physical health of survivors. Our efforts to provide them access to justice and to integrate them in society have been plagued\u201d, she stated.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Symbolically activists posted\u00a0<\/span>in the fences of the Parliament the slogan\u00a0\u201cTreat me with dignity\u201d, as well as some images of quotes of sexual violence survivors, among which \u201cDo not use my suffering for your own chair\u201d;\u00a0\u201cYou said No when in Parliament discussed\u00a0about me\u201d;\u00a0\u201cMy suffering, my confession, weren\u2019t these enough for you?\u201d.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
