{"id":1111108,"date":"2013-09-02T12:06:03","date_gmt":"2013-09-02T12:06:03","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2018-11-16T09:41:10","modified_gmt":"2018-11-16T09:41:10","slug":"new-ldquopiazzardquo-raises-awareness-about-womenrsquos-rights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/womensnetwork.org\/sr\/new-ldquopiazzardquo-raises-awareness-about-womenrsquos-rights\/","title":{"rendered":"New &ldquo;Piazza&rdquo; Raises Awareness about Women&rsquo;s Rights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The new \u201cWomen\u2019s Piazza\u201d on Prishtina\u2019s Mother Teresa Boulevard innovatively sells women\u2019s products while simultaneously organizing street events to raise awareness about women\u2019s rights.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Women\u2019s Piazza, run by NGO Rikotta, sells baked goods everyday on this busy pedestrian square. In addition to helping their women members earn some extra income, they plan to use this public space to organize four street campaigns on topics including women\u2019s right to education; participation in decision-making; breast cancer; and people who suffered domestic violence and trafficking. NGO Rikotta opened the Piazza because they were concerned by the lack of citizen initiatives to further women&#8217;s rights and participation in public life.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cCitizen initiatives are very good tools for promoting solidarity among women\u2019s organizations, as well as gender equality,\u201d said Pranvera Bullaku, Rikotta\u2019s Executive Director. She hopes that the Piazza will raise by-passers\u2019 awareness about issues that women face in everyday life.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Women\u2019s Piazza is a collaborative initiative undertaken with the Municipality of Prishtina, which provided the venue.
