Pristina –\u00a0<\/span>Executive Director of Kosovo Women\u2019s Network (KWN),\u00a0Igball<\/span>e\u00a0Rogova\u00a0has participated in a<\/span>\u00a0panel discussion \u201cMarriage, spouses and\u00a0<\/span>civil union<\/span>\u00a0in the Civil Modern Code of the Republic of Kosovo\u201d, hosted\u00a0<\/span>on April 4\u00a0<\/span>from the European Information and Cultural Centre (EUICC).\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Rogova\u00a0<\/span>highlighted\u00a0<\/span>the most important issues, such as\u00a0<\/span>early marriages, marriag<\/span>e, engagement<\/span>\u00a0and cohabitation.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The r<\/span>eformulation of article 16 regarding the early marriages<\/span>;<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>reformulation of\u00a0<\/span>articles, which<\/span>\u00a0define engagement<\/span>;<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>marriage and cohabitation<\/span>;<\/span>\u00a0eliminating\u00a0<\/span>such<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>definitions\u00a0<\/span>with<\/span>\u00a0gender<\/span>–<\/span>based\u00a0<\/span>discriminat<\/span>ion, were a<\/span>mong the KWN\u2019s recommendations.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the KWN<\/span>\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0analysis, the compilation of the above\u00a0<\/span>articles directly conflict<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>constitutional principles and legal acts that regulate gender equality and non-discrimination.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Representatives of the Ministry of Justice have recognized the work done by KWN with these recommendations also<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ardian\u00a0Mehmeti, representative of this Ministry\u00a0<\/span>acknowledged<\/span>\u00a0the contribution of the KWN<\/span>\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>recommendations,\u00a0<\/span>that he<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>considered<\/span>\u00a0them<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>constructive<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

„We have received the recommendations of the Kosovo Women\u2019s Network, the CEL organization and the other partners, we are reviewing the draft laws based on the status,“\u00a0<\/span>Mehmeti<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Blert\u00a0Morina, Executive Director of\u00a0<\/span>Centre<\/span>\u00a0for Equality and Liberty (CEL), has stated that the Civil Code is contrary to the Constitution.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Morina\u00a0called that the article for marriage of the Civil Code to be in accordance with the definition of the constitution in regard to the right of family creation which is equally guaranteed to all.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Whereas<\/span>,\u00a0Alfons\u00a0Benjamin\u00a0Lentze,\u00a0<\/span>H<\/span>ead\u00a0<\/span>of the EU Civil Code\u00a0<\/span>P<\/span>roject<\/span>, said that\u00a0<\/span>i<\/span>f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Kosovo wants to move forwar<\/span>d, then\u00a0<\/span>it\u00a0<\/span>should work<\/span>\u00a0towards\u00a0<\/span>developing equal rights for all.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
