{"id":3340165,"date":"2019-05-16T13:15:33","date_gmt":"2019-05-16T13:15:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/womensnetwork.org\/?p=3340165"},"modified":"2019-06-05T08:32:57","modified_gmt":"2019-06-05T08:32:57","slug":"kwn-publication-of-rape-images-violation-of-the-dignity-of-sexual-violence-during-the-wartime-in-kosovo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/womensnetwork.org\/sr\/kwn-publication-of-rape-images-violation-of-the-dignity-of-sexual-violence-during-the-wartime-in-kosovo\/","title":{"rendered":"KWN: Publication of wartime sexual violence photos, violation of the dignity of survivors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pristina &#8211; Kosovo Women&#8217;s Network (KWN) followed with concern the today\u2019s publication of a photograph that proves the rape of a woman by Serbian military forces during the wartime in Kosovo, disclosed for public by Member of Parliament Florina Brovina.<\/p>\n<p>KWN\u00a0considers\u00a0that\u00a0Mrs.Brovina\u00a0by this action has violated the principle of dignity of the survivors, recalling that the body of the survivor of sexual violence during the wartime in Kosovo is also exposed by this photography. Besides,\u00a0Mrs.Brovina\u00a0has violated the\u00a0Article 23 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, which stipulates that human dignity is inviolable and is the basis of all human rights and fundamental freedoms.<\/p>\n<p>The picture\u00a0illustrating\u00a0the woman being raped in front of her family, besides being emotionally difficult and disturbing, can also affect the deterioration of this survivor\u2019s emotional and psychological state. Furthermore, it may discourage other wartime sexual violence survivors\u00a0from\u202freporting\u00a0and also serve as a dangerous precedent for all women and girls reporting sexual violence what they can expect from the process.<\/p>\n<p>KWN calls upon the media to remove and\u00a0stop\u00a0disseminating\u00a0this picture which violates the victim\u2019s dignity,\u00a0protected by the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo\u00a0which\u00a0may serve as evidence to\u00a0the justice\u00a0institutions,\u00a0but it should never be circulated in\u00a0public\u00a0this way.<\/p>\n<p>KWN calls\u00a0on everyone\u2019s attention\u00a0to\u00a0extend their\u00a0support\u00a0to\u00a0survivors, and to work on preserving their dignity by not\u00a0re-traumatizing\u00a0them and their family members. KWN\u00a0calls upon\u00a0the Kosovar institutions\u00a0on\u00a0their initiatives to be comprehensive,\u00a0without anyone\u2019s exclusion, such as\u00a0the voted\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/kuvendikosoves.org\/?cid=2,159,8031\">Resolution in the Assembly of Kosovo<\/a>. For 20 years, women\u2019s organizations have provided support for\u00a0those\u00a0men and women, while institutions for 17 years have remained voiceless.<\/p>\n<p>In a media statement, Mrs.Brovina claims that these evidences were presented to the judiciary, but according to her, neither the Special Prosecution nor EULEX interviewed these victims. If this is the case, KWN strongly and without any reserve supports any institutional path seeking justice for the survivors of sexual violence during the wartime in Kosovo, however this action of Mrs.Brovina has not contributed to achieving justice, finding perpetrators of such crimes or to a dignified treatment of the survivors of sexual violence during the wartime in Kosovo.<\/p>\n<p>Through this Press Release KWN seeks from Kosovo\u2019s Parliament Members that in order to fulfil obligations within their mandate to demand accountability from the Courts, both national and international, for the lack of institutional response and dignified treatment of\u00a0wartime sexual violence\u00a0cases committed during the recent war in Kosovo.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pristina &#8211; Kosovo Women&#8217;s Network (KWN) followed with concern the today\u2019s publication of a photograph that proves the rape of a woman by Serbian military forces during the wartime in Kosovo, disclosed for public by Member of Parliament Florina Brovina.
