For three\u00a0<\/span>days in a row,\u00a0<\/span>(<\/span><\/i>December 13, 14 and 15, 2019<\/span><\/i>)<\/span><\/i>,<\/span><\/i>\u00a0WBA Organization in North Mitrovica held a workshop on the importance of\u00a0<\/span>the Gender Equality Index.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Participants in this workshop<\/span>\u00a0were representatives from the Offic<\/span>e for Communities and Return, Gender Equality O<\/span>fficers, representatives from the Office for Social Welfare and Health and representatives of civil society from this municipality as well.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cChange comes slowly, changes will come when everyone realizes that equality is a right that belongs to every woman and girl. Gender budgeting is not only for women<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0but\u00a0<\/span>it is\u00a0<\/span>for both genders\u201d,\u00a0<\/span>said Radmila\u00a0Kapetanovic, a lecturer at this workshop.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Although gender equality index is a relativel<\/span>y new concept in Kosovo<\/span>, its importance was\u00a0<\/span>acknowledged<\/span>\u00a0by<\/span>\u00a0participants who through an interactive discussion understood more about basic concepts,\u00a0<\/span>differences between gender and<\/span>, the role of women and men in society as well as stereotypes that have\u00a0<\/span>traditionally prevailed among us.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A discussion on legal provision followed the activity, including these\u00a0<\/span>local and international that regulate and protect gender equality.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the conclusions drawn from the<\/span>\u00a0workshop was that women have significantly less free time than men. Hence, lack of women in public life, active citizenship, in decision-making processes as well as in cultural and social life became clearer.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>We do not have many women in decision-making positions, we should not compete for positions but\u00a0<\/span>rather\u00a0<\/span>support each other, show solidarity<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>Women should contribute\u00a0<\/span>to their<\/span>\u00a0positions<\/span>\u201d,\u00a0<\/span>said\u00a0<\/span>former minister\u00a0<\/span>Adrijana<\/span>\u202f<\/span>Hod\u017ei\u0107<\/span>.<\/span>\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This initiative was welcomed by the hostess as well<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>In the course of working on the project, the organization had the great challenge of bringing what is unknown and applicable in other countries closer to the institution, the non-governmental sector. The benefit of the project is to promote the work of the NGO in the field of integrating gender perspective and the tools that should be used toward advancing it<\/span>\u201d,\u00a0<\/span>said<\/span>\u00a0Olivera\u202fMilosevic,\u00a0<\/span>Executive Director of\u202fWBA<\/span>.\u202f<\/span>\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Participants expressed\u00a0<\/span>their gratitude for having the<\/span>\u00a0opportunity to be a part of this extremely useful activity for their work and for furthering gender equality in Kosovo.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
