{"id":3348866,"date":"2021-02-02T11:16:46","date_gmt":"2021-02-02T11:16:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/womensnetwork.org\/?p=3348866"},"modified":"2021-02-02T11:16:47","modified_gmt":"2021-02-02T11:16:47","slug":"shmaks-advocates-for-institutional-support-to-strengthen-the-role-of-midwives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/womensnetwork.org\/sr\/shmaks-advocates-for-institutional-support-to-strengthen-the-role-of-midwives\/","title":{"rendered":"ShMAKS Advocates for Institutional Support to Strengthen the Role of Midwives"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\u201cPromoting maternal and child health\nthrough strengthening the role of midwifery\u201d, is the initiative of the Kosovo\nMidwives Association&nbsp;(ShMAKS), a member organization of Kosovo Women\u2019s\nNetwork (KWN), which was implemented in order to increase awareness of the\ntireless work of midwives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On September 9, Magbule Elezi, President of SHMAKS, met with the Minister of Health to discuss the importance of including the role and interests of Kosovo midwives in the Health Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/womensnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/119159851_3379200785473581_3181447079929567377_n.jpg\" alt=\"This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is 119159851_3379200785473581_3181447079929567377_n.jpg\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>SHMAKS has advocated for institutional support to strengthen the role of\nmidwives in Kosovo in the past thanks to the support received from the Kosovo\nWomen\u2019s Fund (KWF).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOver 930 midwives in Kosovo do not enjoy a special status compared to\nother health professionals and their role is not defined at all levels of\nhealth services.\u201d said Elezi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cStrengthening the role of midwives in Kosovo and re-functionalizing\nmaternity hospitals in Kosovo are our two ongoing requests to policy makers and\nthe health committee in the Kosovo Parliament.\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the period of implementation of activities, SHMAKS drafted requests to address to the Ministry of Health to organize working group regarding the drafting of the profession, role, responsibilities and duties of midwife. SHMAKS also held meetings with women and girls in Ka\u00e7anik, Podujeva and Istog, with groups of 7-10 participants, in order to provide advice and information relevant to their health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/womensnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/IMG_5178-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is IMG_5178-1024x683.jpg\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On October, SHMAKS held a roundtable on promoting maternal and child\nhealth by strengthening the role of Midwife. Participants in the roundtable\nwere Mr. Milazim Gjocaj Official Leader, responsible for the law on Health, Ms.\nSuna Zajmi, Director of Health and Social Welfare in Kamenica, Mr. Fitim Uka,\nMember of the Parliamentary Committee on Health, Mr. Zaim Thaqi, Director of\nHealth and Social Welfare in Podujeva and Mr. Jusuf Korenica, Director of\nFamily Medicine in Rahovec. At this roundtable, recommendations for the Health\nLaw Commission were also gathered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the recommendations are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Involvement of midwives in the process of drafting guidelines and clinical protocols in obstetrics;<br>\u2022 Description of job duties, depending on the institution where midwives work;<br>\u2022 Continuing professional education for midwives;<br>\u2022 Representation of midwives in decision-making processes within institutions;<br>\u2022 Increasing and strengthening teamwork;<br>\u2022 SHMAKS to be included in all working groups where debates and decisions are made in all laws and bylaws for midwives and her profession;<br>\u2022 Delegation of gynecologists from the Ministry of Health in all maternity hospitals where gynecologists are missing, which enables faster re-functioning of maternity hospitals;<br>\u2022 Description of work tasks and competencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This initiative is supported by the Kosovo Women&#8217;s Fund (KWF) and funded by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) and UN Women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"922\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/womensnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Slide2-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3348867\" srcset=\"https:\/\/womensnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Slide2-1.jpg 922w, https:\/\/womensnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Slide2-1-300x234.jpg 300w, https:\/\/womensnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Slide2-1-768x600.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 922px) 100vw, 922px\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cPromoting maternal and child health through strengthening the role of midwifery\u201d, is the initiative of the Kosovo Midwives Association&nbsp;(ShMAKS), a member organization of Kosovo Women\u2019s Network (KWN), which was implemented in order to increase awareness of the tireless work of midwives.
