Since its establishment in 2002, The Kosovar Gender Studies Center (KGSC) has operated as a feminist organization and positioned itself as a driving force for gender equality in Kosovo. In a social context where change cannot be achieved through discourse alone, KGSC has oriented its mission towards structural change, placing gender analysis and research-based evidence at the heart of every policy and institutional intervention. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As the first organization of its kind in the country, KGSC was established in 2002 by the Women\u2019s Program of the Open Society Foundation in Kosovo, led by Luljeta Vuniqi, a feminist activist and co-founder of the Kosovo Women\u2019s Network. Since its establishment, KGSC has served as a critical mechanism for integrating a gender perspective into public policies, sectoral programs, and decision-making processes. The organization\u2019s work has extended beyond identifying inequalities to developing intervention models that challenge discriminatory social norms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Generating data is a central pillar of KGSC\u2019s advocacy work. The Centre believes that effective policies are those grounded in in-depth analysis and that consistently incorporate a gender perspective. Through comprehensive studies\u2014from analyses of school textbooks based on UNESCO and EU standards, to complex research on the care economy and social welfare systems, as well as the documentation of women\u2019s history\u2014KGSC has provided compelling evidence of structural gaps in Kosovo. Its continued contribution to policymaking, including work on the prevention of sexual harassment in public administration and monitoring strategies addressing gender-based violence, demonstrates its commitment to translating analytical findings into concrete measures and action. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
KGSC\u2019s work extends beyond research. For KGSC, gender studies are not an end in themselves, but a tool for fostering dialogue and advancing social change. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today, under the leadership of Executive Director Luljeta Demolli, KGSC remains committed to its founding vision while drawing on more than two decades of experience to develop new advocacy strategies. Our recent meetings with the network of member organizations reaffirm that cooperation and the exchange of experiences are essential in responding to current challenges related to NGO funding and the increasingly shrinking space for civil society. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
