Since 1999, it has been a steadfast voice against violence, and by working together with others, it continues to change lives today. 

Established in 1999, the Women’s Wellness Center (WWC) has built extensive experience in addressing gender-based violence, domestic violence, and human trafficking. Its mission is to promote the economic and social empowerment of women, reduce domestic violence, and advance gender equality, understanding, and interethnic tolerance. 

In 2025 alone, 67 women and children found shelter and support within the walls of the Shelter. In addition to providing a temporary and safe space, the Shelter offers 24-hour care and support tailored to the individual needs of the women and children staying there. 

The Shelter’s team combines social work, psychological counselling, and healthcare, while also taking care of essential needs such as transportation, clothing, and hygiene products. These services aim to help survivors leave the burden of violence behind, begin their journey toward recovery, and reintegrate into society. 

Particular attention is given to the well-being and development of children. In addition to age- and needs-appropriate psychological support, staff organize educational and recreational activities, creating the safest and most supportive environment possible for children during their stay at the Shelter. 

Alongside providing direct services, WWC undertakes initiatives to prevent and reduce gender-based violence, promote women’s economic empowerment, and raise community awareness. Its work also extends to strengthening the capacities of institutions, organizations, and networks working to protect survivors. Its efforts further include raising awareness about reproductive health and promoting interethnic dialogue, democracy, and gender equality. 

The history of the Women’s Wellness Center demonstrates the importance of specialized and accessible services for women and children experiencing violence. 

Days before, the Kosovo Women’s Network (KWN) met with Ardita Ramizi Bala from the Women’s Wellness Center – Shelter in Peja (WWC). At the heart of the discussion was the work of the Shelter, the services provided to women and children, and the longstanding cooperation between the Center and KWN. 

A member of KWN since 2003, WWC has built lasting connections with women’s organizations across Kosovo, exchanging experiences and knowledge and coordinating joint initiatives. Its experience working directly with survivors has helped ensure that the needs and concerns of women and shelters are addressed in decision-making processes at both the local and central levels. 

Through this cooperation and networking, WWC and KWN have jointly advocated for better policies, quality services, and sustainable institutional support for survivors of violence and shelters. 

KWN will continue its cooperation with WWC and other member organizations, supporting their efforts to protect survivors, improve the quality of services, and empower women and girls across Kosovo.
