Are you passionate about social justice, gender equality, and evidence-based policy research? Do you want to gain hands-on experience in monitoring and analysing social protection reforms? The Kosovo Women’s Network (KWN) is seeking motivated students for a six-month research internship starting in May 2025. This voluntary internship will provide students with valuable research skills while providing opportunities for students to contribute to meaningful policy changes.
Background
This internship is part of an Action supported by the European Union (EU) aimed at strengthening the quality and gender-responsiveness of ongoing social protection reforms in Kosovo. Through legal and policy analysis, field monitoring, and community engagement, the research will generate evidence-based recommendations to improve social services, social assistance, and labour rights for diverse women and men. This Action seeks to contribute to the overall objective of strengthening the resilience, role, and capacities of civil society in advancing inclusive, participatory democracy and gender-responsive social progress, in line with Kosovo’s EU integration and approximation agenda. To achieve this long-term objective, the Action specifically aims to further enhance KWN and its diverse members’ participation, activism, and influence in reforming, implementing, and monitoring social protection and inclusion policies, thereby improving access to and quality of services for diverse women and men.
Internship Responsibilities and Opportunities
Interns will:
- Support monitoring of legal and policy reforms related to social protection.
- Develop skills for analysing laws and policies from a gender perspective.
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative research, including engaging in interviews and focus groups.
- Learn more about gender-responsive budgeting and how to apply it to social services.
- Assist in drafting policy briefs and reports with actionable recommendations.
- Learn from experienced researchers and policy experts.
- Receive academic credit, where applicable, as part of agreements with universities.
- Receive small per diem to cover costs associated with interning (e.g., transportation, food).
- Have flexible working hours and locations, ensuring continued attendance of university lectures and exams.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be enrolled in or recently graduated from a university program related to political science, gender studies, social sciences, economics, or a related field.
- Have a strong interest in gender equality and social protection.
- Possess basic research knowledge and skills in qualitative and/or quantitative methods.
- Have proficiency in English and Albanian; knowledge of Serbian is an asset but not required.
