The Kosovo Gender Profile for Agriculture and Rural Livelihoods provides an in-depth analysis of gender-related issues within Kosovo’s agricultural sector, including the impact of digitalization. The report offers evidence-based recommendations aimed at advancing gender equality and empowering women economically in agriculture and rural development, with a focus on inclusive digital strategies.
This analysis was written by Kosovo Women’s Network (KWN) and contracted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The study was carried out using the FAO Country Gender Assessment methodology, which involved a combination of desk research, a statistically representative survey of rural households across Kosovo, interviews, and focus groups conducted in 2022.
Key findings indicate that while Kosovo’s legal framework on gender equality generally aligns with international standards, specific laws and strategies related to agriculture, rural development, and climate change lack sufficient gender analysis and steps towards gender equality. The report highlights issues such as the low participation of women in the formal labor market, gender disparities in education and access to resources, and the significant impact of migration on rural livelihoods.
