Cooperation with European Union institutions in the field of Women, Peace and Security (WPS), peacebuilding, and conflict prevention were at the focus of the Advanced Training on Cooperation with EU Institutions on WPS, held in Brussels from 21 to 23 September 2026 and organised by the European Peacebuilding Liaison Office (EPLO). 

Mirjeta Ademi from the Kosovo Women’s Network (KWN) also participated in the training, alongside women leaders and representatives of civil society organisations who gathered to discuss EU policies on WPS, peacebuilding and conflict prevention, as well as opportunities for civil society engagement in EU policymaking processes. 

The three-day training included discussions with EU officials, exchanges among civil society organisations, and practical work on priorities for the next WPS Action Plan. Bringing KWN’s experience to these discussions, one of the key points raised was the need for regular and meaningful dialogue between EU decision-makers and women’s civil society organisations, including regular quarterly meetings where women can contribute to setting the agenda. This engagement should continue beyond the development of the WPS Action Plan, ensuring civil society involvement in its implementation and monitoring as well. 

Another important point was the need for all EU conflict analyses to include intersectional gender analysis and to be conducted regularly, particularly when security situations change. The discussions also highlighted the importance of understanding security in a broader sense than national security alone, including the question of whether women feel safe in their homes and in their everyday lives. 

The training provided an opportunity to bring the experiences of women’s organisations from Kosovo into the broader European discussion on WPS, exchange experiences with women peacebuilders and civil society organisations from different contexts, and reflect on ways to strengthen engagement on Women, Peace and Security in practice.
